Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland Safe Community
Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland is New Zealand’s most populous city, with one-third of the country’s residents. It is home to over half of New Zealand’s overseas-born population and its ethnic diversity is reflective of a global city. Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland is comprised of approximately 70 per cent rural land and 30 per cent urban area. Approximately 90% of the area's population lives in an urban area.
Following local government amalgamation in 2010, Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland is governed by one unitary authority and 21 local boards which vary with regard to their geographic and population size.
Auckland West (first accredited Safe Community in NZ in 1999) and Auckland North (accredited in 2007) Safe Communities are now incorporated within the Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland Safe Community
